Face Meets Road

I had a terrible accident yesterday while riding my bike. I started to change gears while going uphill, and in a moment's inattention, I lost my balance and my bike and I went down an embankment and I spilled out onto a main road. I hit face first onto the pavement and it felt like I shattered my skull. I assessed my injuries and it seemed I didn't have any broken bones, no dizziness, eyesight good and no pain, so I slowly sat up and then noticed I was covered in blood.

I didn't panic. I actually tried to calm all the people who stopped to help. I found out today I do have a broken finger, as well as 12 stitches over my eye, scraped up legs, arm and shoulder. Didn't have any broken teeth, or head injury. But, I feel blessed because it could have been a lot worse. I could have been run over, had brain damage or a major bone break, so these injuries seem slight compared to what could have happened. Eveyone tells me I'll feel the real pain, soreness and stiffness two days after the accident, so I'm not looking forward to tomorrow.

This was a life-changing event for me. It was my first fall--old age I guess. Until now, I thought I was immune to balance problems. I always had such good balance. Five years ago I would have been able to control that bike. Well, at least I think I could have. Depressing thoughts--but I know I'm through with bike riding! Eveyone tells me I'll feel the real pain, soreness and stiffness two days after the accident, so I'm not looking forward to Wednesday.

The Brugmansia bloomed today and it smells as good as it looks!

I'm not sure of its blooming habits but there aren't any more buds on either plant, Maybe it only produces flowers one time a season. I'll keep checking every hour. LOL!

Damn... take care of yourself!

I'm not sure one accident is worth giving up bike riding. It sounds like a fluke... the kind of thing that could happen to everybody.

Yeah, you'll probably feel a little sore, but taking a walk and keeping the muscles stretched out now may help prevent some of it.

As for the brug... it's been my experience that they put out new blooms about every 4 to 6 weeks. the blooms seem ot hang during the day and open up wider at night.

Oh, Pudgeduck! I am so sorry about your accident...thank God you were not even more seriously injured! It is scary, I know...but please don't give up bike riding...I agree with Claude...proabably just a fluke! Just go small and build back up, after you recover. I know that I actually try not to do anything where I could get hurt...I tell everyone the last person I ever want to see is an orthopedic surgeon! LOL. I hope you will take good care of yourself now...keep us updated!!!

I am so glad your brug bloomed! Don't they smell amazing! I've had several flushes of blooms a year- but only if I continue feeding it- it seems so greedy!! But worth the extra care. I am so glad you are not seriously hurt but it does look painful. Hope you are healing!
